Face it, writing good, unique, quality content takes time. If you want to optimize your site’s SEO and indexability, it’s vital that you have unique content. Using private label resell content may get you some ideas, but you still need to reword your article by at least 30% so the search engines will consider a unique.

If you’ve never used speech recognition software before, I think you’re going to be amazed by how much time you can save by talking your concepts, ideas, and thoughts into your favorite word processing program and having your ideas come to life at the speed of sound.

It’s human nature to think and speak. Thinking and writing can be a more complicated process. Once you have an idea or concept in your head is simply a matter of putting on your headphones and speaking in your natural voice as you watch the words that you’re speaking as almost magically appear on your page.

Personally, I’m a Mac guy. For example, I can create new documents by saying, “create new document” or I can save my document by saying “save this document”.  It’s that easy! Once you work with the software for about an hour, you start to get comfortable with how to speak, what the basic commands are, and most importantly, the tremendous momentum that you’ll gain by speaking your thoughts directly onto your page instead of the more tedious process of thinking, typing, editing. Don’t get me wrong, you still have to make edits as the recognition software isn’t perfect, but the time you’ll save in typing and editing alone is worth the price of the software tenfold.

There is one more benefit of using speech recognition software besides the obvious time saving results you’ll get. If you’ve been typing more than a few hours a day for several years, you may experience some type of pain in your wrists, hands, or fingers. You may even be suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. If this is the case, by using speech recognition software, the time your fingers are actually on the keyboard and the mouse can be reduced by as much as 80%!

Regardless if you’re an author, writer or blogger, I’d highly recommend investing in some type of speech recognition software to optimize your time and effectiveness whenever you need to create unique, written content.

For instance, if you secretly doubt your creativity, language or writing ability you may suffer from writer’s blocks frequently. If these are long held beliefs they are probably deeply entrenched in your subconscious. Subliminal messages will help to release these mental blocks.

The first has to do with how the readers find your article or page. They see it in the table of contents of a magazine, but online, people find articles using search engines. A man types in “hiking in yellowstone,” for example. Perhaps your web page is about exactly that. But if it’s titled “My Weekend Wilderness Walk,” he’ll probably never find what you wrote. You have to optimize your writing for the keywords that people are using when they search online - a whole topic in itself.

This is true whether you’re building a page, or writing an article for free distribution. But for the latter there are still other necessities. People not only have to find what you’ve written, but they also have to take the next step: visit your website. Otherwise you get little value from distributing your articles.

Whether submitting your article to an online directory, then, or to another website, you need to include a working link to your own site. You also need to give the reader a reason to click it. The link will normally be in the “author’s resource box” at the end of the article, sometimes titled, “About the Author.” This is where you get to “advertise.”

A good article is not enough. You have to sell the reader on visiting your site, because even the best travel writing may not do this for you. How do you do this then? In the resource box.

If you have a free ebook, you might say: “Click here for the free ebook, ‘10 Tips For Traveling To Spain.’” You have to at least make the web site sound interesting, perhaps with a tease like, “Discover the insider secrets of getting cheap plane tickets at…” Of course good writing alone may build your reputation, but for maximum value you need to get that click through to the site.

Advantages Of Online Travel Writing

The examples above are not about selling your articles, because that isn’t the way to make travel writing pay on the internet - a big difference from the print world. You may be able to sell your articles to some sites, but the pay is generally poor. This is why writing online is normally all about promoting your website and/or products.

How do you make money then? Here is a typical scenario: I write an article on traveling to Mexico, and submit it to fifteen article directories, where it’s taken and used on other websites as well. Eventually it’s in forty places online. In the resource box at the end of the article, readers are promised something valuable or interesting if they click that link and visit my website. On the site they can buy my ebook, click on the ads which I get paid for, or visit the companies who pay me a commission when I send a buyer to them.  Here are four advantages of putting your travel writing online:

1. No need to sell your writing. You never have to find a magazine or newspaper to buy your articles, and no editor can reject your writing. Build a website and sell your own ebooks, or sell ad space, or link to affiliate products, and you can start making money in a few weeks.

2. Small investment. There is no need to even spend money sending out your manuscripts. You can start making money with your travel writing this week by creating a free blog where you post tips and promote affiliate products - no investment required. Starting a website is inexpensive as well.

3. Online articles are short. Internet attention spans aren’t very long, and directories want shorter articles for fast loading of pages. Your articles will usually be between 400 and 1000 words for these reasons. At that length, you can probably write a few good ones tonight.

4. You get to work from anywhere in the world. I’ve written articles while in a hotel room in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado and in an internet cafe in Ecuador. You can even put new pages on your website from any computer connected to the internet, wherever you are.

One benefit which is common to travel writing online or off, is the tax deductions you get. Your vacations can become deductible expenses (talk to your accountant). In fact, if you start a free blog with the aim of making money, you’re in business.

Time Waster No. 1 - Visit Weird Forums That You’d Normally Avoid.

There are some unique forums online.  The forums devoted to prophesies, dreams, conspiracy theories and so on tend to be rich with creative ideas.  I have found some gems of writing ideas in these forums, such as trends in Internet regulation, tips on solar energy, and debates on a wealth of social issues that inspire new article topics.  These forums can be quite entertaining and at times, educational. They should leave you with some new ideas.

Time Waster No. 2 - Stumble Through Websites.

There is an icon on the far left of the SumbleUpon toolbar called ‘Stumble’.  When you click it, you will begin an online journey through all sorts of web pages that you would normally not visit.  Some of these will definitely trigger some writing ideas.  For instance, I stumbled upon one that had a ‘geek test‘ that was fun to take and had some interesting questions that I later wrote about.  I also wrote about the test itself on my blog and readers loved it.

Time Waster No. 3 - See What’s Happening at Digg.

The variety of submissions that flow through Digg can inspire a wealth of creative ideas for those of us who occasionally suffer from writer’s block.  You will see everything from wacky oddities to the latest and greatest in Internet marketing.  The sheer volume of Dugg stories will help you discover some profitable writing ideas.  There is never a shortage of subjects that people Digg about.

Time Waster No. 4 - Have Fun.

Turn off the PC and get away from it all.  There is nothing like some fresh air and time with good friends to clear the brain fog.  Going on a hike, doing yardwork, spending some time at the lake or hanging out with good friends gets your mind out of the muddle so that you will be more inspired when you log back on to your computer.  Marketing and advertising agencies recognize that fun inspires creativity, which is why many of them decorate their work spaces with fun, colorful and sometimes silly fixtures.  Even if you have the quirkiest workspace in town, it still is a good idea to get away from it once in awhile to get your creative juices flowing again.  In short, have fun!

Discover four highly entertaining ways to waste time on the Internet and smash your writer’s block into smithereens.  If nothing else, write about your favorite time-wasting activities in the blog comments linked in this paragraph … and lo and behold?  By writing a comment, you will have written something again … and smacked a dent in your writer’s block.

Many people try to get around that by outsourcing articles. The problem with that is of course, it cost a lot of money. Good article writers don´t come cheap and you can expect to pay $10 to $15 per 500 word article.

There´s also the time it takes to explain to the freelance writer what you want and the style of writing. Then you have to handle the hassle of managing the writer, making sure he/she delivers the article on time. Add to that, some writers are so poor in their spelling and grammar that you spend more time correcting the mistakes than if you were to write them yourselves.

Writing articles need not be difficult. In fact, here are some tips on how to write an article in 30 minutes or less.

The first thing you need to consider in coming up with a quality article in minutes is to make an outline of the topics you want to write. Focus on a specific topic and then weave your thoughts through written expression. If possible, you can write your ideas in bulleted format and once you reached a specific word count arranged each into a well written paragraph.

Keep in mind that articles need not be long in order to identify substantially. Online readers have a short attention span and making your articles long will only bore your readers. I recommend an article to be 300 to 400 words in length.

Making it precise, short and direct to the point is a good way of luring more audience. As far as possible, use simple English to get the point across. Writing online is a lot different and a lot easier than writing a novel or for a magazine.

What do women want? This is the question you must answer to find your pot of gold in the romance novel field. The funny part is, it has already been answered for you. According to the Romance Writers Guild of America, the main objective of a romance novel is to conclude with “an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending.” It beats a sharp stick in the eye, and if you can provide that, along with some bumps and conflicts along the way, you can make it in this business. The romantic relationship, how it is avoided, how it progresses, how it is blocked, and how it finally overcomes all this to a happy ending is basically all that romance novels are. It’s a classic formula that is no less satisfying for being a formula. Consider that certain dramatic cliches have been around for literally thousands of years, since the dawn of the theater, and they still work today. Why? Because humans haven’t changed that much in all this time. We still want love and happiness and the ability to give and feel important. We still desire to see heroes struggle and fail only to get back up and triumph. There is no older story.

Most romance novels are told from the woman’s perspective, either in first or third person. It is the story of one woman’s struggle to find love. If you are a man, that may seem difficult to adopt, but I would remind you that women are essentially human as you are, and have those same emotions that you do. You may bring something wonderful to the genre that no one has before just by accident through your unique voice. Something you may not know is that twenty-two percent of romance readers are male. So don’t let anything stop you from starting on your way to an empire of stories.

Although this can sometimes be the only option for those who are running on a non-existent budget, it is not a way that will effectively build your website or revenue. There are a few potential reasons why this may be detrimental to your business building efforts.

Problem #1 - Search Engines

Search engines will only look down upon your site if it has the exact same duplicated content than other sites. The more sites that share your content, the less it will help you achieve good search engine rankings.

Good search engine rankings are essential in getting visitors to your sit so that they have a chance to click on your affiliate links. If you cannot even get visitors, then will never make an revenue. Working on the search engine optimization of your site so that you will eventually be high enough in the results to get customers, should be priority one.

Problem #2 - Getting visitors to click

Although getting your site high on search engine result pages and acquiring site visitors is hard work, unfortunately this is only half of the battle. You must also be able to convince those visitors to click on your affiliate links. If your visitors see the same content they have seen on a multitude of other sites, they will be least likely to click on your links. This is because most people want to buy things that are recommended by people that they trust or whom they feel like are an expert on the subject.

If your content is just duplicated from other sites, you will be exposed as someone who does not really know what they are talking about and therefore will not look heavily on your product recommendations. This will reduce the number of website visitors who will be willing to click through.  This is where an article submitter comes in handy.

Problem #3 - Author Bylines

Most free content is only given to you if you agree to place the authors byline under the article (you can get into trouble if you try to use it without following the stipulated rules). This poses a problem because most author bylines include links. When a reader gets done reading a really intriguing article, there is a strong possibility that they will click on the author’s byline link rather than your affiliate links. This is the entire reason why these authors offer free content to begin with, so that they may get their name and links out there to the public. Using this type of content may mean shooting yourself in the foot and losing possible profitable website visitors.

Once you put these three problems together, you are looking at a serious decline in revenue simply because you used free website content from article directories. Although it may be the only option for some, if you have the funds to buy your own original content, then you should go this route. If you don’t have the finds, however, you may be better off writing your own content and then hiring professional services once you have made a profit to work with.  Using an article submitter is still your best bet.

Articles directories are a great place to put your articles so that they will make you money. By using this method, people who are interested in your product or service will see your article, view you as an expert in the subject, and will visit your website. Even if you cannot write or do not have any knowledge on the subject on which you are promoting (for example for you run an affiliate website), you can always hire a writer to do the work for you.
